This podcast explores the work of Ashley Frawley, Senior Lecturer in Public Health, Policy and Social Sciences in the UK. Ashley has conducted extensive research on happiness, the happiness industry, and the role of psychotherapeutic discourses in the construction of social problems in public life. Her book Semiotics of Happiness: Rhetorical Beginnings of a Public Problem was published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2015. More recently, Ashley has written about mindfulness, as well as about ‘causal stories’ in constructions of social problems experienced by Canadian Indigenous peoples. In the podcast, Ashley discusses her research and its public and political significance with Daniel Nehring (East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai).
