Katie Wright
Katie Wright is a sociologist at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Inquiry and currently holds an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (ARC DECRA). Her research focuses on the social and cultural effects of the spread of psychological knowledge and therapeutic discourses, both in historically and in the present. In recent years, her work has explored the role of psychology in educational reform and its impact on changing understandings of problems of childhood. She has published widely on therapeutic culture and the history of psychology. Her books include The Rise of the Therapeutic Society: Psychological Knowledge & the Contradictions of Cultural Change and Rethinking Youth Wellbeing: Critical Perspectives (with Julie McLeod). Her current projects focus on changing conceptualizations of childhood vulnerability and the rise internationally of official inquiries into historical child abuse.
